Mary Arnelle Downs Bradley

Mary Arnelle Downs Bradley of Springfield, passed away on Friday, July 27, 2012 following a long illness. She was born in El Centro, California on September 8, 1934 to Clayton and Mary Creley. She grew up the cherished younger sister of Richard Creley. She was married to her first husband Robert Downs for 19 years and they had 4 children. Robert preceded her in death in 1972. Mary met Jimmie Bradley of Morrilton in 1973 when he was living in San Diego. They were married in an intimate family ceremony late that year. Mary dedicated her life to being the best wife and mother she could be. Mary and Jimmie retired to the Morrilton area in 1991 and have remained there ever since. Mary delighted in family celebrations, remodeling and redecorating, country living, and a good conversation over a cup of coffee. She wrote letters of welcome to each of her grandchildren on the day they were born and had a special name for each of them. She loved her husband and children with all her heart and was always a source of wise counsel. She is survived by her devoted husband of almost 39 years, Jimmie Howard Bradley of Springfield; her children; James Downs (Nina) of Florida, Sue Downs-Loyd (Dave) of Virginia, Cynthia Lane (William Vance) of Pennsylvania, and Ricki Willett (John) of California. Mary is also survived by ten grandchildren: Alyssa Willett Hernandez, Anda Willett, Abigail Willett, Jessica Loyd, Robert Loyd, Robert Lane, Rebecca Lane, James Downs, Jr., Jaimyn Downs, and Jake Downs. She is survived by four great-grandchildren and her brother Richard Creley of Nevada. Mary was generous and kind woman who was determined to see the unique and best qualities in every person she met. Her support for her family was unending. She amazed us all with her fight and spirit during her last illness. Throughout her life she exemplified quiet strength in the face of every adversity. Her family leaned on her in troubled times and her children learned from her how to face life with grace, courage and determination. Her faith in God was evident to the end. The family would like to thank Brookridge Cove, especially Josephine, and Arkansas Hospice River Valley Home and the First Baptist Church family for their loving care. Funeral services will be 10:00 a.m. Wednesday, August 1st at First Baptist Church of Morrilton with Dr. Bill Brown and Rev. Don Erwin officiating. Burial will be at Plummerville Cemetery by Harris Funeral Home of Morrilton. The family will receive friends from 6:00-8:00 p.m. Tuesday, July 31, at the funeral home.
