Helen Elizabeth Nye

Helen Elizabeth Nye, age 91, of Perryville, Arkansas went to her Heavenly home to be with her Lord Jesus on November 5, 2023. Helen was born on December 9th, 1931 in Bridgewater, Massachusetts, to Charles and Esther McIntyre. Mrs. Nye and her husband, Bill started volunteering for Heifer Project International shortly after their marriage in 1974. They moved to Perryville, Arkansas in 1979 to be the first host couple at the Heifer Ranch. Summers were spent giving hayrides to church youth groups and volunteers from across the nation, teaching them all about animals and substance farming. During their time with Heifer Ranch, the Nye’s took trips on C130s loaded with goats, chickens, and rabbits to help missionaries in the Dominican Republic feed hungry children. In 1984 the couple moved to Ceder Creek, Arizona to help train missionaries heading overseas with food for the hungry for two years. Their final stop before retirement was the Hart Program in Lake Whales, Florida where they once again helped missionaries learn how to do substance farming. Helen is survived by her sister, Eleanor Cook of Cazenovia, New York; sister, Emily McDowell and husband, Jean of Houston, Texas; sister, Nancy Graham of San Antonio, Texas; son, Jack Murphy, and wife, Valery of Douglas, Massachusetts; daughter, Ramona Nelson, and husband, David of Plymouth, Massachusetts; daughter, Mary Bentley of Perryville, Arkansas; stepson, Jake Nye, and wife, Deborah of Willow Springs, Missouri; stepson, Barry Nye, and wife, Darlene of Willow Springs, Missouri; stepson, Danny Nye of West Plains, Missouri; stepdaughter, Melody Gardner of West Plains, Missouri; stepdaughter, Meredith Pimental of Belfast, Maine; stepson, Robin Nye of West Plains, Missouri; foster son, Edgar Bailey of Kissimmee, Florida; grandchildren, Kara Serrano, Jennifer Slowick, Andrea Summarell, Jay Murphy, Shena Murphy, Holly Begin, Kearnen Murphy, Kayleigh Murphy, Bryleigh Murphy, Weldon Nelson, David Nelson, Rebecca Nelson, Joseph Nelson, Joanna Nelson, Naomi Nelson, Mahala Nelson, Mallisa Mobley, Travis Bentley, and Tess Palazolo; and an abundance of great-grandchildren, nieces, and nephews that she loved dearly. She was preceded in death by her parents, Charles and Esther McIntyre; husband, Bill Nye; and sister, Barbara Haskins. Funeral service will be 2:00 p.m. Thursday, November 9, at Harmony Baptist Church with Bro. Dusty Day officiating. Burial will be at Harmony Cemetery. The family will receive friends one hour prior to service.
