Owen Harvey Cochran Obituary - Visitation & Funeral Information

Owen Harvey Cochran, of Morrilton, Arkansas passed away on May 23, 2022, at home with his family. He was born in Winslow, Arkansas to Eddie and Joan Wieburg Cockrum on June 13, 1928. Owen grew up on a farm in Clarksville, AR where, as an industrious young man, he developed a love for the outdoors - hunting, fishing, and agriculture. Moving to Amarillo, TX in 1949, he continued his many ventures and became a master carpenter after earning a degree from Amarillo College. In 1950, Owen was united in marriage to Berniece Gordy in Dumas, Texas. Soon after, he left to serve in the Army and was stationed in Germany. Returning to Amarillo, he raised his family and continued constructing many beautiful homes and buildings. He was a Superintendent for Western Builders before moving to Morrilton, AR and starting Yellowhammer Construction in 1973. Later, he started C & C General Contractors with his son, Owen Eddie. Owen was a consummate storyteller, weaving humor and history, with his uncanny recollection of details, into his stories. These stories kept listeners fascinated by the life and times he lived in and his positive outlook. He could grow anything and his family reaped the benefits from his gardens of delicious vegetables and beautiful zinnias. He loved his family above all and enjoyed engaging with his grandchildren, teaching them the Cochran way to make cornbread and fried potatoes. He was preceded in death by his parents, his wife of 54 years, Berniece Gordy Cochran, sister Thelma Shock and brother, Corbie Cochran. He is survived by two sisters, Lena Laney, Camden, AR and Pam Cockrum, Clarksville, AR; son, Owen Eddie Cochran, Morrilton, AR; daughter-in-law, Teri Turney, Conway, AR; daughters Mary Klase, Enterprise, AL; Judy Click and husband Kenny, Amarillo, Texas; Gwen Dillow and husband David, Grapevine, TX; Joyce Philpotts and husband Don, Marietta, GA; grandchildren, Shane Klase, Gurnee, IL; Alana Dawn Klase Freeman and husband Deric, Lewis, CO; Malia Balsam and husband Doug, Trophy Club, TX; Courtney Click, Argyle, TX; Danielle Dillow, Dallas, TX; Ryan Philpotts, Houston, TX; Jake Philpotts and wife Maggie, Milton, GA; Lauren Ernzen and husband Josh, Crowley, TX; four great-grandchildren, Destiny Jenkins and husband Matthew, Addison Boyer, Liam Freeman, Andrew Philpotts, great, great-grandchildren, Eli and Lani Jenkins and numerous nieces and nephews. The family will receive friends on Wednesday, June 1 from 6:00 – 8:00 PM at Harris Funeral Home in Morrilton, AR. The funeral service will be Thursday, June 2 at 10:00 AM at the funeral home, with a graveside service following at Oakland Cemetery, Clarksville, AR at 12:30 PM. Reverend Dade Kindrix will officiate. Pallbearers will be Brian Clinton, Josh Ernzen, Shane Klase, Fill Neeley, Jake Philpotts, Ryan Philpotts, and Ernie Nolan.
