Juanita Joyce Sowers McCarthy, age 95, of Center Ridge, Arkansas, passed away Wednesday, October 9, 2019. She was born September 14, 1924 in Fort Wayne, Indiana, a daughter of Hugh H. Sowers and Elizabeth Bauman Sowers. She was a member of St. Joseph Catholic Church in Center Ridge, Arkansas and was in the first group of Waves in the United States Navy which consisted of 644 women. Juanita attended St. Francis College in Fort Wayne, Indiana and was an organist at St. Joseph Church for years. She is survived by her children, Maureen McCarthy of Morrilton, Annette Jenkins of Lakeland, Florida, Michael McCarthy (Debra) of Blanchard, Louisiana, Jane VanKampen of Vilonia, Nancy Schnebelen (Mark) of Cabot, Loraine Gliser (Mike) of Holts Summit, Missouri, Brian McCarthy of Springtown, Texas, Rosemary Brewer of Jacksonville, and Joyce Orosco (David) of Fort Worth, Texas; sister, Delores Tye of Fort Wayne, Indiana; nineteen grandchildren; and numerous great grandchildren. Other than her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Francis McCarthy. Funeral Mass will be 2:00 p.m. Saturday, October 12, at St. Joseph Catholic Church in Center Ridge, Arkansas with Father Jack Harris officiating. Burial will be at St. Joseph Cemetery in Center Ridge.
