On Wednesday, August 11, 2021 we said our final goodbye to the best dad in the world, Farrell Columbus Scroggins, age 90, of Springfield. He was the first born on October 17, 1930, of C.C. “Lum” Scroggins and Beatrice “Beaty” Mallett Scroggins of Springfield, Arkansas. Farrell loved the country life but knew early in his teens he did not want to be a farmer. Seeking adventure, he enlisted in the U.S. Navy at the age of 17 in December 1947. He was trained as a hospital man in Naval Hospitals in San Diego, California; Houston, Texas; Corpus Christi, Texas and Memphis, Tennessee. He was honorably discharged; returned to Arkansas, earned his high school GED, then enlisted in the U.S. Air Force on September 20, 1950 and continued training in the medical field. He became a Tech/Sargent and re-enlisted each time period serving a total of 20 years and 10 months in the USAF. He received the National Defense Service Metal and Good Conduct Metal with twelve other awards presented. He served in England and Turkey from June 1954 to February 1963. After his military service, he obtained his real estate sales license and also his mortuary license. Farrell and Mary Ann Keller Buente were married in May 1955 and became the parents of Wayne Ray, Barbara Jean and Baby Girl Scroggins. Farrell was preceded in death by his parents; the mother of his children, Mary Ann; Baby Girl Scroggins; and special friend, Freda Welter. Left to cherish his memory are son, Wayne (Sandy) Scroggins of Cuero, Texas; daughter, Barbara (Fred) Marler of Springfield, Arkansas; grandchildren, Rebecca Leann Heffington, Christopher (Karla) Marler, and Misty (Justin) Villa; great grandchildren, Curtis Henderson, Kayla and Nicole Heffington, Zayden, Brody, Lachlan, and Jordan Villa; brother, Jerry (Mona Kay) Scroggins and Jimmie Scroggins; sister, Betty Jo Blair; several nieces and nephews; special helper Jan Swope; and numerous other caregivers. Funeral services will be 10:00 a.m. Monday, August 16, 2021 at Harris Chapel with Bro. Booth and Bro. Mike Jones officiating. Burial will be at Mallettown Cemetery. Family will receive friends 2:00-4:00 p.m. Sunday, August 15 at the funeral home. Pallbearers will be Christopher Marler, Jimmie Scroggins, Jerry Scroggins, Fred Marler, Steve Glover, and Bill Bartley.
