Wanda Groom Pryor

Wanda Groom Pryor, 91, of Morrilton, passed awayAugust 8, 2019. The former Wanda Groom married William H. “Hat” Pryor on January 6, 1952. She was preceded in death by her parents, C.B. (Bryan) and Lucy Groom; husband, William H. “Hat” Pryor; two brothers, and two grandchildren. Serving as the Public Health Nurse and Administrator of the Conway County Health Unit for 28 years, she was known to three generations of vaccinated school children as the “Shot Lady”. Her public health service extended throughout the county to anyone in need of public health care. She was always ready to assist those who otherwise would not have access to appropriate healthcare. After retirement, “Miss Wanda” was a regular fixture at the Conway County Care Center and Conway County Free Medical Clinic where she continued her life of service to Conway County. Fiercely independent, her daily breakfast and afternoon coffee groups were especially important to her. The loving care and regular contact with those groups allowed her to remain in Morrilton until failing health required her 2018 relocation to College Square Independent Living Center in Conway. While there, she made new friends and continued to maintain and renew her lifelong Conway County connections. She was the “Shot Lady” and “Miss Wanda” to the community, but to her family, she was “Nana”. She is survived by her children; Bill (Sandy) Pryor of Conway, Mike (Linnette) Pryor of Heber Springs, and Ann (Gary) Clements of North Little Rock; grandchildren, Amanda (Jared) Allen, Ginny Pryor, Jeremy (Sarah) Clements and Austin Clements; four beloved great grandchildren, Lucy, Adam, Carroll Ann, and Andrea; and a special niece Linda Duden Long of Arizona. A Funeral Service honoring the life of Wanda G. Pryor will be held, 2:00 p.m. Monday, August 12, at Harris Chapel with a visitation following the service. To honor her legacy of service, memorials may be made to the Conway County Care Center, Morrilton Public Library or Morrilton First Baptist Church. Burial will be at Elmwood Cemetery by Harris Funeral Home of Morrilton.
