T.J. Mahan

T.J. Mahan, age 91, of Morrilton, passed away, Monday, March 7, 2016. He was born in Martinville, Arkansas on January 9, 1925, a son of Larkin and Effie Tackett Mahan. He was the last of their seven children. T.J. was a graduate of Nemo Vista High School in Center Ridge, member of the Downtown Church of Christ, a World War II veteran, sold automobiles for thirty five years for Loves, Simms, and Pruitt Motor Company. He built and owned Lakeview Landing Boat Dock for twenty two years. He was a life time member of the Lion's Club and VFW. He served eight and one half years on the Conway County School Board and was County Judge for eight years. He played baseball for several years with Martinville and the Lions Club. He then coached Little League baseball for several years. He was an avid outdoorsman and sportsman, who especially enjoyed deer hunting and watching St. Louis Cardinals baseball. T.J. married Willie Faye Thomason Mahan, his Sweetie Pie, on May 17, 1946 and they had four children. He is survived by his wife of almost seventy years, Willie Faye Thomason Mahan of Morrilton; sons, Ronnie Mahan and wife Cindy of Searcy; Donnie Mahan of Maumelle; daughter, Karen Mahan Murph and husband Randy of Little Rock; son in law, Rick Henriksen of Maumelle; grandsons, George Bentley, Jr., Kent Mahan, Brian Mahan, Jared Mahan, Logan Mahan; great grandsons, Dustin Bentley, Brett Mahan, Aaron Mahan, Caleb Mahan, Caden Mahan, and Jase Mahan; great granddaughters, Morgan Bentley, Rachael Mahan, and Sarah Mahan. He was preceded in death by his parents, daughter, Anita Mahan Henriksen, brothers, sisters, many nieces, nephews, cousins, in laws, and friends. Funeral services will be 10:00 a.m. Friday, March 11, at the Downtown Church of Christ with Mr. Randy Rankin, Mr. Charles Bane, and Mr. George Hulett officiating. Burial will be at Elmwood Cemetery by Harris Funeral Home of Morrilton. The family will receive friends from 6: 00 to 8:00 p.m. Thursday, March 10, at the funeral home. Special thanks to Area Agency on Aging, Home Instead (Conway), and Arkansas Hospice (Conway and Russellville). They have been such a blessing for the care they have given to T.J. during his illness; especially, Tammy Hern, Area Agency on Aging; Lynnette Fuller, Vickie Faulkner, Jodi Strasner, Josh Garrett, and Carol Hammonds of Home Instead. There have been many more caregivers from these agencies who have cared for T.J. over the last year and a half who have gone on to other jobs, but we want to thank them as well.
