Olen Ray Fullerton

Olen Ray Fullerton, age 86, of Morrilton passed away peacefully at his home on Tuesday, September 27, 2022. He was born on June 15, 1936, in Morrilton, Arkansas, the son of Olen Richard Fullerton and Euna Beatrice (Brewer) Fullerton. He married Mary Elizabeth Williamson on August 15, 1956. They had 3 children, Margaret Grace, Belinda Ellen, and Lydia Beth. He graduated high school from Harding Academy and enrolled at the University of Arkansas at Fayetteville where he obtained his Bachelor of Science in Education in 1957. In 1963 he graduated from Arkansas State Teachers College with a Master of Science in Education. He later returned to school at the University of Missouri in Columbia where he earned his Doctor of Education. He had the pleasure of serving for 42 years in the public school system where he taught and coached students at Wonderview School District, Southern Christian Home, and Camdenton Missouri. He was hired as Assistant Superintendent in Lebanon Missouri, then moved to Iberia Missouri where he served as Superintendent. In 1975, Ray came back home where he served for 23 years as Superintendent of Morrilton/South Conway County School District. His great love for the Lord spoke volumes. He had the honor of continuing his education by teaching people about God’s word in Bible class. He once remarked that Wayne Biggs was always challenging him in class and it made him a better teacher. He was honored to be appointed as an Elder for the Church where he served for many years. He loved camping and traveling in his retirement years, duck hunting and pheasant hunting in South Dakota with his friends and his cherished son-in-law, Punkin. He leaves behind two daughters, Belinda (Punkin) Wells and Beth Fullerton; three grandchildren; and five great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents, son-in-law, Don Zern; daughter, Margaret Zern; and his wife of 53 years, Liz. Funeral services will be 10:00 a.m., Friday, September 30, at the Downtown Church of Christ with Mr. George Hulett officiating. Pallbearers are Randy McNabb, Ray Ellis, Johnny Balch, Les Cupp, Lindell Roberts, and Ronnie Mobley. Honorary Pallbearer is Jimmy Hill. Burial will follow at Elmwood Cemetery. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service, at the church.
