Nettie Lee Flowers

Nettie Lee Adams Flowers of the Sunnyside Community, Center Ridge, Arkansas, passed away on Saturday, June 29, 2019, at the age of 96. She was the oldest of seven children born to the late Sherman and Pearl Bennett Adams in the Lords School House Community, near Morrilton, on June 28, 1923. She married James Hulon Flowers in 1945. They worked together on their farm, while raising three sons. They were married for only twenty-eight years when Hulon passed away in March 1973. Although her grandchildren never knew Hulon, she filled them with many wonderful memories of him and spoke of the hard-working, virtuous and respected man that he was. Other family members who preceded her in death were her parents; beloved son, David Flowers, brothers, Quentin, Kenneth, Bill and Tom Adams; and sister, Geraldine Adams Helton. A woman of deep faith, Nettie loved the Lord and her church. She was often found sitting quietly, reading her Bible. She was a long-time, faithful member of the Sunnyside Community Church and a current member of the New Hope Sunnyside Church. She taught her children and grandchildren kindness of heart, to love the Lord and to be respectful of others. She was at her happiest when surrounded by her family. She is survived by two sons and their wives: Jimmy and Pat Flowers of Center Ridge and Mark and Joyce Flowers, of Cleveland; and daughter-in-law, Sandy Flowers of Center Ridge. Nettie was so proud of her grandchildren and great-grandchildren and enjoyed spending time with them. Grandchildren are: Denise Flowers, Christie (Steve) Freeman, Randy Flowers, Julie (Ronnie) Chapman and Jonathan (Katie) Lawson. Great-grandchildren are Peyton and Kaleb Freeman, Marley Chapman, Hudson and Hayden Lawson. Surviving sibling is Ila Mae Shockley of Conway. Nettie is also survived by many nieces, nephews and a host of treasured friends. She was a wonderful cook and her home and kitchen table were always open and welcoming. She loved cooking and feeding her family and always managed to have enough food for anyone who dropped by. Nettie was a simple woman who was always happy with what she had and never wanted for more. She devoted her life to her family. She was kind, compassionate and always willing to help others. She lived every day for the Lord. Her Faith and love of God guided her throughout her life. She was the root of our family and will be forever missed. Funeral services will be 11:00 a.m. Wednesday, July 3, 2019 at Harris Chapel with Dr. Thomas Flowers officiating. Burial will be at Pleasant Hill Cemetery. Family will receive friends 10:00 a.m. Wednesday at the funeral home.
