John T. Johnson

John T. Johnson, 75, of Salmon, Idaho, formerly of Thornburg, Arkansas passed away peacefully from cancer on June 29, 2017 at his home in Salmon with his loving wife Jean and stepson Chris by his side. John was born on February 3, 1942 in Thornburg, Arkansas to William R. and Katherine Westerfield Johnson. John joined the US Navy when he was 17 years old. He served for 8 years, where he learned his lifelong trade of being an Electrician. While he was stationed in Stockton, California, he met his wife Jean on a blind date. After 1 year of courtship, they got married. They had a son John Johnson Jr. After he got out of the Navy, he went to work for LOF Glass Co. in Lathrop, California. He worked there for 17 years. After being laid off, he went to work for the Government at Rough & Ready Island in Stockton, California for about 8 years. After leaving there, he started his own business, Johnson Electric in 1987. John loved to go on trial rides, hunting and fishing. He loved his horses, and he was always active in the horse world. He was the president of San Joaquin Valley Rangers, Region IV of California State Horseman's Association, Reno Sierra Riders, H & B Driving and Riding Society. John loved his family; he was a hard worker and provided for his family, they came first. He loved his sons and grandchildren, whatever they needed; he did the best to give it to them. John and Jean retired in 2011 and moved to Salmon, Idaho, where they made their home. He made a lot of friends in Salmon and joined the Cowboy Church, which he enjoyed very much. He loved to visit with his friends and tell stories just about everything. John is survived by his loving wife of 52 years, Beverly Jean Johnson; sons, Christopher S. Johnson, John T. Johnson Jr.; grandchildren, Daphney R. Johnson, John T. Johnson III, step grandchildren Chance Hickey, Britney Akin; sisters Kaye Johnson Guess, Elizabeth (James M.) Wise, Nancy Gosnell, Sarah (Dean) Hargrove, Martha (Jim) Sponer; brother, Riley R. (Grace) Johnson. He was preceded in death by his father, William R. Johnson; mother, Katherine Westerfield Johnson; brother, Marion L. Johnson. Funeral Services will be 2:00 p.m. Tuesday, July 11 in the Thornburg Baptist Church, Thornburg Arkansas. Visitation with the family will be Monday, July 10, from 6:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. at Harris Funeral Home in Perryville. Interment will in the Thornburg Cemetery, Thornburg, Arkansas. Funeral arrangements are by Harris Funeral Home, Morrilton, Arkansas.
