Herbert Joseph Kordsmeier

Herbert (Herb) Joseph Kordsmeier, Sr., 81, of Morrilton, entered eternal life on January 1, 2010, at his home, after a courageous battle with cancer. He was born March 24, 1928 in Morrilton, one of 11 children born to the late Carl and Catherine Miller Kordsmeier. He was preceded in death by five brothers, Msgr. Charles, Anthony (Nick), Gerald (Shell), Bill, and Cyril Kordsmeier. He was a 1945 graduate of Sacred Heart High School, and a lifelong member of Sacred Heart Catholic Church. He was a Korean War veteran. He was a retired master plumber and business owner of Morrilton Plumbing and Heating Company, owning the company for 55 years. Active in his community, he volunteered his leadership to numerous organizations including a 50-year member of the Morrilton Rotary Club, past president of the Morrilton Rotary Club, 1994 Rotarian of the Year award, Paul Harris Fellow Award, National Chairman of the Board of Catholic Knights of America, St. Anthony's Hospital Board of Directors and 2007 Morrilton Citizen of the Year Award. He was a past Grand Knight of the Msgr. Charles F. Kordsmeier Council 5209 Knights of Columbus, where he was a member over 50 years. He held numerous council offices and received Family of the Year Award and State Family of the Year Award. He enjoyed his volunteer work, including helping to renovate the Conway County Christian Clinic and also working for Sacred Heart Church and School. He served as president of the School Board, and served on the Bazaar Committee, Finance Committee, Building and Grounds Committee, Cemetery Committee and was instrumental in the planning and improvements made for additional parking at Sacred Heart. He enjoyed singing with the Sacred Heart Choir for many years. He was a very devoted husband and grandfather, with 10 children, 30 grandchildren and 6 great-grandchildren, whom he loved deeply. He dedicated his life to give the best of his time and self to his family, church, and community. He was a real "people person", with a gift to relate to all people, both young and old. Left to cherish his memory include his wife of 56 years, Lorene Dussex Kordsmeier, five sons and five daughters, Herbert Joseph (Denise) Kordsmeier, Jr., Albert (Kyla) Kordsmeier, Chris Kordsmeier, Alma (Rick) Duvall, Brenda (Roger) Wilson all of Morrilton, Danny (Merinda) Kordsmeier, Marian (Danny) Eades, Jackie (Matt) Elsinger, Angie (Gary) Horne all of Conway, and Eric (Carly) Kordsmeier of Dallas, Texas; two brothers, Emil "Doc" (Helen) Kordsmeier and Martin "Pete" (Bernadine) Kordsmeier both of Conway; three sisters, Margaret (Herman) Baechle of Texas, Martha Ann Lemonds of Oregon and Lucille Kordsmeier of Morrilton; 30 grandchildren and 6 great-grandchildren. The family would like to thank Dr. Michael Koone and staff at Morrilton Medical Clinic, Dr. Peter Post, Dr. Sue Tsuda and staff at Carti, Health Care Pharmacy in Morrilton, St. Anthony's Rehab, Petit Jean Home Health and Arkansas Hospice for their kindness, patience and extraordinary care. The family will receive friends from 5:30 p.m. to 6:45 p.m. Monday, January 4, at Sacred Heart Catholic Church, with rosary service to follow at 7:00 p.m. Funeral Mass is 10:00 a.m. Tuesday, January 5, at Sacred Heart Church with Father Charles Thessing and Father Jason Tyler officiating. Burial at Sacred Heart Cemetery by Harris Funeral Home of Morrilton. Pallbearers will be Joseph Kordsmeier, Caleb Kordsmeier, Fred Kordsmeier, Charles Kordsmeier, Kyle Duvall, Jeremy Elsinger, Ed Ruff and Hank DeSalvo. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Sacred Heart Catholic Church or Sacred Heart School Endowment, 406 East Elm, Morrilton, Arkansas 72110. He will be greatly missed by all who knew him
