Gene Doss

Gene Doss, of Morrilton, beloved wife of Dr. Edward W. Doss, Sr. passed away on August 11, 2008, at Baptist Medical Center in Little Rock. She was a wonderful wife, sister, mother, aunt, grandmother and great-grandmother and will be sorely missed by family and friends. Gene is survived by her loving husband of 64 years, Dr. E.W. Doss, Sr., her daughter, Norma Nickerson and her son, Edward W. Doss, Jr. She is survived by her brothers and their wives: Frank and Loretta Davis, and R.T. and Fern Davis. She is predeceased by her sister, Alma Lee. Also cherishing her memory are her grandchildren: Genie Dana, James Nickerson, Jon Nickerson, Michele (Doss) Easter, Stephanie Doss, and Thomas Doss. She had 10 great grandchildren who will miss their "grand-mama". She will also be missed by a host of nieces and nephews. Gene was born December 26, 1926, in Alpena, AR, to Maggie and Ernest Davis, who are both deceased. Gene was an avid gardener, winning the "Yard of the Month" in Conway County. Her "green thumb" was admired by her friends and neighbors. She also loved golf and bowling and won many trophies over the years. She loved to hunt and fish and taught her grandchildren to enjoy fishing. Gene and her husband, Ed, lived in Stuttgart from 1952 until 1988 when he retired from the practice of chiropractic. During their years there she helped in the clinic and was a President of the Women's Auxiliary to the Arkansas Chiropractic Association. After retirement they moved to Hot Springs Village to enjoy golf and gardening and then moved to Morrilton, Arkansas. Gene was an active member of the United Methodist Church and attended the Overcup Methodist Church in Morrilton. Gene had been chairperson of her high school graduating class (Class of 1944) and had recently organized class and school reunions. Services will be held at 10:00 a.m. Saturday, August 16, 2008, at Harris Funeral Home in Morrilton. The family will receive friends Friday, August 15, 2008, from 6:00-7:00 p.m. at the funeral home.
