Gary Martin Kaufman

Gary Martin Kaufman, age 67, of St. Vincent, died peacefully in his sleep on Thursday, August 24, 2023. He was born on September 11, 1955, in Morrilton, Arkansas to Louis and Louise Kaufman of St. Vincent. They took him home to their beef and turkey farm and he immediately decided he never wanted to leave. After graduating from Arkansas Tech University, Gary returned to the family farm with his parents and ensured that they remained in their family home and helped care for them until their passing. Gary was a member and past president of the Conway County Farm Bureau Board, member of the Conway County Fair Board, the Arkansas Tech University Ag Advisory Board, and St. Vincent Knights of Columbus. He served many years on the Wonderview School Board, the St. Vincent Volunteer Fire Department, the Conway County Extension Council, and the St. Mary Parish Council and is a Eucharistic Minister at St. Mary Church in St. Vincent where he has been a lifetime member. Kaufman Farms was selected as Conway County Farm Family in 1973 and in 1994 and was named an Arkansas Century Farm in 2018. Gary was the Butterball Grower of the Quarter nine times and Grower of the Year four times. He is survived by his wife of 43 years, Sherry Nelson Kaufman of Cleveland; his children, Jason and Jane Kaufman of Morrilton, Brittany and Zachary Singleton of Walnut Ridge, Amber Kaufman of St. Vincent, and Emily and Richard Woodall of Conway; his grandchildren, Noah Kaufman, Bo Kaufman, Adelaide Woodall, and Lee Woodall, who called him “Bubba” and thought he made the best popcorn in the world; his siblings, Drs. Dale and Jeana Kaufman, Mary Beth and Raymond Gunther, Brenda and Eddie Squires, and Sheila Hanson; and his aunt, Elizabeth Thines of Morrilton. The funeral mass will be at 10:00 a.m. Monday, August 28, at the St. Mary Catholic Church with Father Jack Harris officiating. Burial will be at St. Mary Cemetery. Rosary will be 6:00 p.m. Sunday, with visitation following at the Harris Chapel. Gary never met a stranger and will be missed by many. Memorials may be made to Conway County 4-H. Pallbearers will be Drew Pinkston, Matt Pinkston, Brad Brewer, Michael Burgener, Bob Burgener, and Jason Kaufman.
